(Agence Ecofin) – In West Africa, the target of rice self-sufficiency has been postponed to 2035, pushed back from the previous goal of 2025. This additional 10-year period is intended to allow the continent’s most populous region to intensify efforts to boost production. While this ambition remains commendable, it could still end in failure without structural and radical changes in production systems and policies. This is what Patricio Mendez del Villar, a research at CIRAD, conveyed to Agence Ecofin.
